Ovangkol

Ovangkol heartwood is yellow-brown to chocolate-brown with greyish to almost black streaks or grains. The outer heartwood is more intensively coloured than the inner. In the case of older trees, darker wood with black veins occurs more often than in younger ones. In view of the above, the markings of Ovangkol can vary a great deal, from a grey nutty colour to attractively grained and/or veined. The sapwood, which is 40-80 mm thick is grey-yellow in colour, which becomes greyish when dry. Freshly cut, the wood has an unattractive sour smell which disappears gradually when dried.
