The heartwood of Bubinga is pink, pink-red to red-brown, coloured with purple veins which can cause streaking on the quartered surface and a grained mark on the flat cut surface. Discolours in light, as a result of which this marking is less distinct. The sapwood is white coloured, 60 mm thick.
