In many countries with a high traffic density, noise barriers are needed to protect residential areas from motorway noise.
Although this measure is often regarded as a necessary evil, this does not have to mean that the view from the motorway
has to be boring and monotonous. It is also possible for noise barriers to be naturally integrated into the landscape, or to achieve the opposite effect, for them to become a striking eye-catcher.
In both cases, timber can play a leading role in the construction, also when used in combination with other materials such as glass, metal and concrete.
