Labels & Claims

By using the three FSC® certification systems, it's possible to market timber with an FSC logo. Within the FSC system itself, there are different labels for use on products, each of which corresponds to a specific FSC claim. This FSC claim is of particular importance for dealing with the correct paperwork in the supply chain. The following claims are used within the timber trade and timber-processing industry.

FSC Pure

Timber with an FSC Pure claim contains 100% FSC-certified material. In addition, in exercising this claim, there is the requirement that all FSC-certified timber is physically kept apart from non-certified timber throughout the supply chain (Chain of Custody, COC). For this purpose, use is made of the FSC Transfer System.

Timber with an FSC 100% claim may be labelled with the FSC 100% label shown below. This label includes an FSC Licence Number which is linked to an FSC custody of chain certificate. More information, for example, on the current validity and content of this certificate, can be obtained by consulting the FSC Certificates Database at info.fsc.org http://info.fsc.org.

FSC Mix Credit

Timber with an FSC Mix Credit claim contains 100% FSC credit material. When this claim is used, somewhere in the supply chain (Chain of Custody, COC) there has been a mix with FSC controlled wood (CW). However, an input-output system (FSC Credit System) guarantees that no more timber is given an FSC Mix Credit claim than has proportionally been included during processing.

FSC Mix 70%

Timber with an FSC Mix 70% claim only contains 70% FSC credit material. Likewise, when this claim is used, somewhere in the supply chain (Chain of Custody, COC) there has been a mix with FSC controlled wood (CW). In this event, there is a guarantee that at least 70% of the material has an FSC claim on the input side of the system. In order to calculate the correct claim percentage, use is made of the FSC Percentage System.
